Singapore travel guide

Singapore is a group of islands in south east Asia at the tip of Malaysia.  Most people think of Singapore as Singapore City but there is a lot more to it than that.  It has been inhabited for centuries but modern Singapore was founded in 1819 by Stamford Raffles, a trader with the British East Indian Company with one of the most fantastic hotels in the world, Raffles, bearing his name.  Meeting at the bar at Raffles was made famous in many books and movies.
Whereas Singapore is almost as densely populated as Monaco, it has over 50 parks and being on the equator has beautiful gardens year round.  It also is a very clean as well as strict city so you have to be careful to not litter, chew gum or get a parking ticket.  It works as their crime rate is the lowest in the world.
Singapore is also noted for its shopping malls.  As this is a very wealthy country they have fabulous boutiques from around the world as well as local retailers and the malls are stunning with marble fittings.  Orchard Road is lined with fantastic shopping.
As the heritage is mixed you will find districts with different groups.  Chinatown is popular as well as Little India.  Bugis and Kampong Glam are the old Malay sections and there is also a Burmese section.
In the Bras Basah area you can find old colonial architecture which is pretty to explore.  There are lovely beaches not only on Singapore Island but also on the other surrounding islands, some of which are uninhabited.
Don’t forget to go see some of the gardens.  The Garden City and City in a Garden are two popular ones along with the National Orchid Garden and the Gardens by the Bay   There’s also the HortPark and the Chinese and Japanese Gardens each one with its own specialty.
Singapore is a good jumping off spot for seeing south east Asia and spending a night or two on your way into Asia or out, Singapore will be restful as well as exciting.  It even has enough to see that it could just be the destination in itself.
