Kansai International Airport (関西国際空港 Kansai Kokusai Kūkō) (IATA: KIX, ICAO: RJBB) is an international airport located on an artificial island in the middle of Osaka Bay, 38 km (24 mi) southwest of Ōsaka Station, located within three municipalities, including Izumisano (north), Sennan (south), and Tajiri (central), in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. The airport is off the Honshu shore and was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. The airport serves as an international hub for All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, and Nippon Cargo Airlines, and also serves as a hub for Peach, the first international low-cost carrier in Japan.
It is colloquially known as Kankū (関空) in Japanese.
Kansai opened 4 September 1994 to relieve overcrowding at Osaka International Airport, which is closer to the city of Osaka and now handles only domestic flights. During the 2006 fiscal year, KIX had 116,475 aircraft movements, of which 73,860 were international (31 countries, 71 cities), and 42,615 were domestic (19 cities). The total number of passengers was 16,689,658 of which 11,229,444 were international, and 5,460,214 were domestic, sixth in Japan and second in Osaka area. However, in 2009, airport traffic has fallen by almost 20% in just two years to 13.4 million. In 2010 airport traffic had risen to over 14 million, with international passengers accounting for approximately 10.4 million and domestic passengers accounting for approximately 3.7 million. Freight volume was at 802,162 tonnes total, of which 757,414 t were international (18th in the world), and 44,748 t were domestic. The 4,000 × 60 m (13,123 × 197 ft) second runway was opened on 2 August 2007. As of May 2012, Kansai Airport has become an Asian hub, with 499 weekly flights to Asia, 66 weekly flights to Europe and the Middle East, and 35 weekly flights to North America.

Business Center – Send faxes, make photocopies, use the computers or rent the meeting room. Location: 4th Floor North. Hours: 7am – 9pm.
Car Rentals – Japaren • Mazda • Nippon • Nissan • Orix • Toyota. Location: Aeroplaza, 1st Floor. Hours: 8am – 9pm.
Change Rooms – If you have arrived from a trans-Pacific flight and would like to change into some fresh clothes, the airport has change rooms. Available in the women’s restrooms only. Location: Terminal 1, 4th Floor.
Children’s Play Area – The KIX Kid’s Room offers children’s activities between the hours 7am – 12am. Location: airside. Additionally there are three areas near these departure gates: International Gates – between Gates 13 and 14, North Wing • International Gates – between Gates 28 and 29 (South Wing) • Domestic Gates – Between Gates 21 and 22.
Currency Exchange – There are several foreign exchange offices located throughout the terminal – before and after security.

Information Desk – The Information Center is located on the 2nd Floor North. Hours: open 24 hours. Additionally, there are 8 Information Counters: there are two on the 1st floor of the Passenger Terminal Building; one in the center of the 2nd floor; three on the 4th floor, and two at the main building of International Gate Area.
Luggage Storage / Lockers – ANA Sky Porter and JAL ABC have storage offices on the 1st and 4th floors on the southern and northern end of the terminal (landside). Rates: varies at each location. Rates: from 600 yen per day. Additionally, there are three areas with lockers: Terminal 1, 2nd Floor • , Terminal 2, in front of International and Domestic Arrivals, 1st Floor • Aeroplaza, 2nd floor Atrium. Rates: from 300 yen per day. The Aeroplaza location has slightly lower rates.
Pet Hotel – While you are on vacation, your pets can be too. You can leave them at the Kanakuu Pet Hotel Promenade. Location: Parking Building 2, 3rd Floor. Hours: open 24 hours.
Police – Location: 2nd Floor North. Hours: open 24 hours.
Prayer Room – Visit the prayer room if you need some quiet time for meditation or prayer. Location: 4th Floor North. Hours: 7am – 9pm.

Showers – Coin operated showers can be found on the 2nd Floor (North). Shampoo, Conditioner, and body soap are provided. Hours: open 24 hours. Additionally there are showers in the KIX Refresh Cabin and KIX Airport Lounge.
Smoking – There are designated smoking areas and smoking rooms in 13 areas of the airport. Locations: Passenger Terminal, International Gate Area, Domestic Gate Area, and the Aeroplaza.
